Standards Addressed: See attached sheet. |
Objectives: 1) Students will be able to synthesize Hoover’s response to the Great Depression by reading quotes about and by Herbert Hoover. 2) Students will be able to compare and contrast the response of Hoover compared to FDR using a graphic organizer. |
Activities/ Procedure: -Teacher will pass back 3,2,1 cards with corrections and notes. Teacher will then assign groups for activity according to readiness. Students who struggled in the lesson before will have an opportunity to relearn materials and then continue on with today’s lesson. (5 minutes) -Teacher will explain directions for students: Read quote on slip of paper handed to each group, discuss the meaning, and then write down how this relates to Hoover’s response to the Great Depression on graphic organizer. Then find concrete example of a response in textbook (IE: Government should not handle direct financial assistance- EX: Bonus Army). When finished, groups will present their findings to the class by adding their information to the SmartBoard. The rest of the class will copy information into their graphic organizer. (20 minutes) - Teacher will explain that students will learn more about FDR’s response in the next few days, and ask students to copy information about FDR’s response into the graphic organizer to begin to compare and contrast. (10 minutes) -Teacher will introduce inquiry project. Teacher will put potential topics on the board, and hand everyone a “menu” with options for presentation of the project. Students will also be given a work plan sheet to fill out in the next few days. Teacher will also show students the project website that has a sample project and information about using credible sources. Students will get into their groups and be able to discuss their options. This will carry over into tomorrow’s lesson. (Remaining time) |
